I've made it! Its nearly 2am but im in bed. It was the Whitsundays I went past earlier, and was term tempted to stop and check then out in the morning light, but have decided to save them for the next visit and do Fraser Island too. I've managed to go a little past townsville as the capital of queensland was too brightly lit for me to enjoy the stars which are quite an amazing display again, which I know wilma make mum very jealous. I've pulled off into at small park, designed it seems for exactly this, there have been hundreds of sign along the way about driving tired, and in hoping this place will be slightly spectacular in day light. I can hear crickets chirupping away and have already spotted kangaroos, so my count is up to 3.
The drive has gone very quickly surprisingly, and I think thats because of the radio. Finally bored of the same songs on cd and conversation with the dashboard got stale when it couldn't argue properly so I turned to the radio and am thankfull that the old art of radio is not dead. I've listened to at author plug his book, if has a masters in winemaking, served in Vietnam, commanded the armed forces, advised politicians, is a professor of theology and has travelled to numerous places to research his books oh year and is part way through writing his doctorate in the usa's middle east decisions in war. So a pretty smart guy. I've listened to perhaps the most knowledgeable woman who knew every stain removal technique under the sun, most involving pantihose. I've entertained and informed and quized, I even almost called in to discuss gay adoption rights but dont have hands free. It was by far the easiest way to stay alert once the sun had gone down.
Only 350km to Cairns now, and the daylight should show of lots of it, I cant wait to sit by a pool drinking a cocktail... Good night.
Glad you didn't run over the snake. It would have been pretty mad at you after 300 km! And yes, I am jealous of the fact that you can see all those fantastic stars. Yes, long live the radio. There are some great programmes around and hardly anyone listens to them. Hope you enjoy Cairns and the cocktails by the pool! Safety journey. xxx
