Monday - Anna Bay

So its been an interesting evening. While at the hostel yesterday i'd spotted about an experience that I felt wasn't to be missed, so while stopped to upload the last part of the blog and get direction's I called up and booked in. The meeting point for the excursion is a beach car park, at 8.30am. So I figured i'd head over and find somewhere to stay and have a mosey around the local watering hole. So I head off, and almost immediately get into a stand off with a very large truck who refuses to let me in front of him when our lanes merge. I definitely dont want to ding the paintwork on this van and he was MUCH bigger than me so after attempting for force my way in and aborting with less an a hairs width between us I end up waiting on the hashed lines after my lane ended for 5 mins as he thunders both of his extra long trailers past. Not a good start, but im keeping it careful, manouvreing carefull along, or so I thought till I looked behind me to see the seats askew, pillows all over and sheets draped across the back. Unless I missed the orgy going on back there, I can only assume nothing was tied down when I left! By this time its now dark, and im merrily driving along, music on full blast talking and singing to myself. Thankfully its only me in here! I arrive near Anna Bay and instantly know I wont be having a few drinks with the locals tonight... Because there are none. The deserted streets are probably full of life mid summer but now they empty and desolate. Not a single shop is open, but being 9.30pm thats not a huge surprise. The advantage of having a campervan becomes highly apparent now. I decide to head to the car park for the morning meet and sleep there, and what a good choice that was! The bar park is deserted, but its literally right on the beach. The lack of locals means there is no light pollution, so the stars are clear as space. There's nothing for me to do except watch the stars and listen to the waves crashing not 100m away. Perfect location. So I start to assemble the bed. Im still not sure I have it right, but I have a sheet and pillows over what is hopefully a solid base. There's still padding left right and centre, and 3 slabs of wood in not sure are supposed to be doing something. I'll let you know in the morning if it collapses under me!
