Day 5 - Bondi / Newcastle

Spent most of today on Bondi beach, with the entertainments manager from the hostel and other backpackers. It was very different to how it seems on tv, for starters its quite a lot smaller! And today it was far less busy than the rescue shows ever make out, even with the sun out. The wind was the killer today, and there were few surfers brave enough to hit the waves. And so, with many thing left still to do in Sydney, I decided I had to leave. With a huge number or places still to visit, I had to move it along. I jumped on the train, heading for Newcastle. A number of reasons for this, some people I skied with in canada came from out here, typically none were available at short notice! Also it was the furthest away from Sydney I could get on a train, so relatively cheap and also because a flyer at the hostel had listed among the things to do here was cuddle a koala for free. For a change, I was organised enough to call ahead to book a bed, and good thing to as the top 3 choices were fully packed. Still, its only for a few nights and the bed seems good enough. With any luck i'll be able to pick a campervan up on monday, I called first thing this morning and despite being available NOW on the websites, these places dont operate over the weekend so the earliest will be monday if it is still available, or I find a more interesting way to continue the travels! For now, its time to discover the night life of a new place!
